What is the theme in Garden of Shadows by V.C. Andrews?

One major theme in the novel, Garden of Shadows, is love and marriage. This theme is illustrated through the marriage of Olivia and Malcolm, as well as the marriage of Garland and Alicia. One marriage is cold.... devoid of love and romance, whereas, the other is a marriage based upon mutual love, warmth, and affection.
