How does the author use foreshadowing in Garden of Shadows?

In Part II, Olivia feels powerful as she keeps Alicia hidden and controls her husband's desire through her insistence that he not spend time with Alicia while she is in their home. This foreshadows the events of the first book of this series, Flowers in the Attic, and Olivia's role in keeping four children imprisoned in this same room.
