What symbolism does the author illuminate in her father's library in Chapter 3?

The author compares her father's library to his blurry distinction between reality and fiction. In her illustrations, she points out all of the intricate details of the room which create a facade of elegance and she compares her father to someone who wanted to imagine himself "a nineteenth-century aristocrat overseeing his estate."
