What mythological allusions does the author make in Chapter 1?

Bechdel compares her father to both Icarus and Daedalus, destined for a dramatic fall. Mythological and literary tragedies become an important theme through Bechdel’s memoir. This is largely in reference to her father’s affairs with young men, and especially with older boys.
