What is revealed in the letter that the author received from her father in Chapter 7?

Bruce Bechdel's letter showed support for his daughter after she had come out. She notes, though, that "instead of at last confiding in me, he took the novel approach of assuming that I already knew--although at the time he wrote the letter, I did not."
