The author claims that there is no definitive proof that her father committed suicide, but that there is little doubt in her mind that he did. He was hit by a Sunbeam Bread truck on a highway, but Bechdel claims that he intentionally ran in front of the truck. She bases these assumptions on the fact that her mother had asked for a divorce two weeks prior and that her father's repressed homosexuality haunted him.
