How does the author describe her father's love of gardening in Chapter 4?

Bechdel describes her disdain for this obsession of her father's, saying, "Of all his domestic inclinations, my father's decided bent for gardening was the most redolent to me of that other, more deeply disturbing bent." In the panels, she shows dialogue of herself as a child with her father saying "I hate flowers."
