Tica and Memo are Chula and Cassandra's cousins. They are staying with Abuela Maria at the same time, and are accidentally caught up in a guerilla - paramilitary gunfight, which leaves them traumatized. Their situation, and the reaction of their mother, is a catalyst for tension within Chula's family.
