Importance of Mami (Dona Lucia)

Mami is Petrona's mother. She is ill with asthma and unable to work, leaving Petrona responsible for earning the family's income and taking care of the younger children. She is manipulative and judgmental, at one point throwing Petrona out of the house because of her relationship with Garrion.
