What is Schiavelli's Cake?

Schiavelli's Cake is symbolic of Sicilian culture and the connections between the Sicilian diaspora. It is symbolic of "what it means to hold on to a piece of yourself when you straddle two cultures, calling two lands home" (Loc 2064). At the same time, it also represents "how home is a place we carry with us in our hearts" (Loc 2064). The cake also represents the efforts people will go to connect with one another and the differences between American and Sicilian cultures.
