Who is Pvt. Robert E. Lee "Prew" Prewitt from the movie, From Here to Eternity?

Prew is known throughout the military as the best boxer around. When he quit fighting, he was transferred to Holmes, who expects him to start fighting again. Prew refuses and ends up being given kitchen duty and other laborious jobs to punish him. He never gives in, though.

Prew's best friend in the military is Angelo. He is the one who brings Prew to the city, where he meets Lorene, whose real name is Alma. When Angelo is mistreated and ends up dying at the hands of the stockade sergeant, Prew decides to get revenge.

Prew goes to the city and murders the stockade sergeant. Since he can't go back to the base, he stays with Lorene instead. He spends all his time drinking, and she finally begins to get frustrated with him. After the bombing at Pearl Harbor, though, Prew returns to help. He doesn't call out to the other soldiers, though, and is killed.
