Describe Max and Kevin’s first encounter. What is ironic about the situation?

Max and Kevin first meet as pre-schoolers in day care. Max is an overactive little boy with a propensity for kicking. Freak was a little boy with crutches that he wasn't afraid to use if necessary, thus, Max never got around to kicking Freak.... the crutches kept him at a distance.
