Walton has a thirst for knowledge, as the stranger once did. What details suggest that both are willing to make sacrifices in the search for knowledge? Do they seem unusual in this respect?

Walton's boat is frozen in the ice. His men dislike him, and he feels utterly alone and sad. He thirsted for the knowledge of exploration, but he only found isolation. Victor too has ostracized himself from society. His thirst for creating human life has lead him to disaster. Like Walton, he is alone and unhappy.
