Mary Shelley was a young woman at the time she wrote frankenstein. There were numerous scientific breakthroughs and theories coming to the forefront. The scientific discoveries, in addition to her own perceptions of science, were the inspiration behind the novel. Shelley saw the power behind the new discoveries and envisioned the heights to which scientific experimentation could climb. She also recognized the dangers. In writing, Frankenstein, Shelley illustrates her fears..... the all consuming desire that led Victor to create his monster..... and his ultimate end..... a result of his work.
