How does the author use foreshadowing in Fountains in the Rain?

I don't see a lot of foreshadowing here. The art of deception is critical to the success of Akio's scheme, but he is not good at it. He pretends to love Masako, but he does not this foreshadows his own confused and conflicted anguish.
