Foucault's Pendulum
How did the official end of the Knights Templar occur?
.
.
King Phillip of France, feeling threatened by the Templars, encouraged the rumors that were circulating about the Templars (including that they were homosexuals and devil worshipers), and arrested the Templars in 1307. Their leader, Jacques de Molay, was burned at the stake, and most of the Templars confessed to the charges against them under torture. Many were burned at the stake, and the rest were imprisoned, marking the official end of the Templars.
