Who is Pvt. Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue in the film, Forrest Gump?

Bubba comes from a shrimping family down in Louisiana. He only plans to be in the Army for a little while, then he wants to take his money and go into business with his family. Bubba is one of Forrest's best friends in the Army, but he meets an untimely death during the war. The two had promised to care for one another's families, so Forrest seeks to do right by Bubba's family.

At a time when racial issues were still tense, Bubba and Forrest make an unlikely pair. Bubba is not simple like Forrest, but he does have a naïve way of viewing the world. The most beautiful part of Forrest's relationship with Bubba is that Forrest keeps his promise by giving Bubba's family Bubba's share in his shrimping business.
