Who is Lieutenant Dan Taylor in the film, Forrest Gump?

Lieutenant Dan is a strong, brave man who comes from a family with a well-known military heritage. Lieutenant Dan is willing to sacrifice himself for his men, and he hopes that someday he can die a heroic death to make his family proud.

Dan's hopes are destroyed when Forrest saves him in Vietnam. Instead of being a hero, Lieutenant Dan is now a poor cripple on the street. Over time, Dan forgives Forrest and realizes that he can still have a life after the military.
