The vignette entitled "Cleopatras" focuses on a bus full of women who wear veils over their faces for cultural and religious reasons. The women are watching a movie featuring the action film character Lara Croft, a fact that Tokarczuk uses to create a discordant, yet meaningful image. While there are stereotypes that women who wear veils do not admire strong and sexy women, and perhaps do not even consider themselves as such, Tokarczuk uses the scene to point out that these ideas are often patently false.
