Blau has never been interested in diseases or in the curing of sick people. The narrator says that for a time, "he studied medicine but rapidly got bored of it" (133). He would much rather fiddle around with cadavers in order to study anatomy and as everyone knows, "Dead bodies don't get sick" (133).
