Karen is much younger than her husband and she considers it her job to take care of him in his old age. She knows about his arteriosclerosis, makes sure he gets to bed after he has fallen asleep, and watches his diet. The only problem that tortures her is the professor's tendency to struggle with ingrowing toenails no matter what she tries.
