Annushka is alarmed at the woman's mumblings and apparent curses, causing her to run away from the woman. However, it is later revealed that the woman's mumblings had all revolved around movement. She had been repeating words and phrases such as "Sway, go on, move" (260) at the time Annushka had become frightened.
