How does the author use foreshadowing in Flashman's Lady?

The exposure of Flashman's affair, in addition to Elspeth's blossoming friendship with Don Solomon Haslam, both serve to foreshadow Harry and Elspeth's trip to Asia, the attack on Flashman, and Elspeth's abduction.
