Rainer Werner Fassbinder was the leading filmmaker in the west German movements. He created over 40 movies in 14 years, and he performed in his own works as an actor. He was also a writer-director for television, live theater, and radio. Fassbinder created gangster films, screwball comedies, film noir, classical literature adaptations, westerns, and science fiction. The main focus of his films was outsiders searching for acceptance. The film that catapulted him to fame was Ali: Fear Eats the Soul.
