Who is Peter Omohundro from Flash for Freedom! and what is their importance?

Omohundro is a slave dealer from Georgia, who joins the riverboat in Tennessee. While onboard, he recognizes George Randolph, a runaway. Randolph attempts to fight his way off the ship and is shot. Whe he falls overboard he is wrongly presumed to be dead.
