Who is Freddie Gray from the book, Five Days?

Freddie Gray was a Black resident of Baltimore. In April of 2015, he was arrested by police officers on insubstantial charges. Gray soon died, and evidence strongly suggested that the police caused his death through excessive force and criminal negligence. Gray was 25 years old upon his death. Gray’s death sparked widespread protests and unrest in Baltimore. This book focuses on those days of unrest, as well as the underlying systemic injustices (such as racism, police brutality, and economic inequality) that led to that unrest.
