Who is Billy Murphy from the book, Five Days?

Billy Murphy is a lawyer and a Black resident of Baltimore. Billy has had a long career. In the 1980s, he ran for mayor. He was shocked when he lost to a white opponent, despite the fact that Baltimore’s population is majority-Black. As a lawyer, Billy has had unprecedented success in police brutality cases in civil court. The book showcases Billy’s power as an orator, as well as his wide knowledge of the history of institutional racism in the United States. In civil court, Billy managed to win a very large monetary payment, to be paid by the city to Gray’s family.
