Who is Jose in the novel, Fifty Shades of Grey?

Jose is a friend of Ana's. Ana and Jose met when Ana first came to Portland to attend college. Jose is the son of an old military buddy of Ana's father, making them almost like family. Jose has a crush on Ana that he attempts to act on one night while they are out drinking together, causing some tension in their relationship. However, they make amends and continue with their friendship. This relationship is a source of jealousy for Christian during his relationship with Ana.
