Who is Senator from Fields of Fire and what is their importance?

Senator was a student at Harvard when he enlisted in the Marines. While his friends were busy finding ways to avoid the draft, he willingly attended the examination and assigned to duty. Initially, Senator believed that his service would merely require his presence in the Marine band.... something he was excited about. The thought of having to go into battle didn't excite him at all.
