Phu Phong was one of the perimeters used by the Marines in their random treks across the valley floor (the bush). It was four hundred meters across at its widest point, sitting on a high, kidney shaped mound, covered with trees and shrubs and high weeds. There were bomb craters everywhere from years of bombing, and it had rough looking straw thatched hootches everywhere. From the highest point of Phu Phone, one could see the Arizona Valley clearly. To the west, beyond three other similar mounds, was the Razorback Ridge.
