Comment on setting

The novel opens in 1968 and continues until mid 1969. It starts with the enlisting of the three men and their diverse backgrounds. The story continues once the men are in Vietnam and the fighting begins. They wander aimlessly throughout the villages and flat lands from one assignment to another. When one man gets hurt, he is flown to a hospital in Japan. He is patched up and sent back into the fields with the other men.
