What possible news of Lukas is there at the end of Chapter One?

Seven months after Lukas disappears, in August of 1865, heavy rains fall over the forest. Soon afterward the forester comes to tell Elias that parts of a skeleton belonging to a small child have been found among the driftwood along the Gouna River.
