What does Mattie mean by the phrase “Nothing gained by delay” as used on p. 240?

Mattie is referring to the fact that waiting accomplishes nothing. It is her responsibility to get up and get things moving within the household, thus, waiting in bed, snuggling up under the covers wasn't going to warm up the coffee house.
