What is a Drag King?

Drag kings are usually females who dress up as men to perform some sort of theatrical masculinity. Drag kings necessarily deal with the issue of defining masculinity, especially because masculinity is often perceived as natural and thus non-perfomative. Halberstam observes drag king contests and shows, analyzing the performances in an attempt to determine why and in what ways lesbian drag culture is different from gay male drag culture.
