What metaphors are used in Feed by M.T. Anderson?

In The Garden, Violet goes off to see the doctor. Violet comes back and leads Titus to another part of the hospital. Through a huge window, they see a dead garden. Vines lead up to the stars and Titus says it looks like a squid in love with the sky. Violet is impressed by his use of metaphor. They kiss.
