Titus describes life as it is now as life before the feed, where people had to use computers outside the body. He compares it to carrying lungs around in a briefcase, showing that, to him, the feed is just another organ in the body. He also mentions that people had to "use their hands and their eyes" (pg.47), showing that he understands the 'limitations' of older computers.
