What is the theme in Favorite Folktales from Around the World by Jane Yolen?

There is a reoccurring idea of love found throughout the stories. The most popular is of the love that happens between two people, often as man and wife. Many times the stories that have the theme of love between a man and a woman, exhibit the strength of that love by examining it after death. It is common for the love to go beyond death and for there to be a message from beyond the grave. It is also common for one of the characters to try to bring their loved one back from the dead.
