What tragedy befalls Gabriel Oak in Chapter Five?

Gabriel has a young sheep dog that is inexperienced, as well as his older dog, George. The young dog leads the sheep astray and they end up all falling over the edge of a cliff. Gabriel is left penniless due to his losses and must go to town in order to look for work at job fairs.
