What promise does Sergeant Troy elicit from Bathsheba in Chapter 27? How?

Troy appears when Bathsheba is climbing trees in order to collect and trap honey bees. Troy steps in for her and does the work. He then solicits Bathsheba to meet him that evening so that he can demonstrate his sword drills for her and she agrees.
