What leads to the conflict between Bathsheba and Gabriel in Chapter 29?

Gabriel sees the courting of Sergeant Troy and takes the opportunity to warn Bathsheba about him. In doing so, he suggests that Bathsheba is being unfaithful to Boldwood by pursuing Troy. Bathsheba again attempts to fire Gabriel, but he remains loyal and refuses to listen.
