What happens to the tree located above Mr. Fox's hole as a result of the farmers' use of mechanical shovels?

The tree under which Mr. Fox had originally dug his family's hole falls under attack when Bean and Bunce use caterpillar tractors and mechanical shovels to try to reach Mr. Fox. Eventually, the big tree above Mr. Fox's hole is "toppled like a matchstick" (21).
