Mr. Fox creeps carefully and slowly to the mouth of his hole, just as he always does. He is incredibly careful to edge slowly toward the entrance of his hole, all while sniffing deeply to determine without a doubt that there is no danger in emerging. While it appears to be safe, the reality is that the three farmers are waiting just outside Mr. Fox's hole with shotguns at the ready.
