The tone of the essay plays a significant role in Singer’s intended aim behind his argument, namely, getting people to consider the real-life consequences of their present conception of morality. As he aims to amend the way we respond to the suffering in developing countries, he adopts a clear and casual tone that will enable more people to respond to and consider his claims. As a result, the essay reads more like a personal speech, or a newspaper article, than a formal philosophical argument.
