The gilt fist is a symbol of connections. Woody gives Charlie this gilt fist, the knocker from his door, to prove to Claudia that Woody really sent him to her. When Charlie arrives at Claudia’s house, she tells him she does not need to see the fist because she dreamed that Charlie was coming.
