The evening of September 11, 2001, Grandma sits with Oskar on her lap. Mom makes posters and goes out to hang them. When Oskar falls asleep, Grandma turns on the TV with no sound, seeing the horrible events of the day. Grandma knows there are thousands of bodies and wishes she could take her son's place under the rubble.
