Who is Ren from Extras and what is their importance?

Ren is Hiro's best friend. He is also a tech head, who has his own feed on which he posts stories about technology. Ren modified Moggle, Aya's hovercam, and when she has technical questions about her story, Ren gives her the answers. Ren also goes along when Aya, Hiro, and Frizz are kidnapped with Tally and her friends.
