Why does Fuwaad travel through the Gate of Years?

Fuwaad travels through the Gate of Years to see his wife before her death when a mosque collapsed. Due to many delays, he does not arrive in time to see his wife; however, he does meet with a woman who cared for his wife in her final moments. She relays to him Najya's final words, words that were full of love for him, and he is moved to tears. Weeping, he wanders the streets until he is picked up by the city guard.
