What object does Evvie place on the mantel just before she opens the door to meet Dean?

Just before Evvie opens the door to meet her new tenant Dean, she rummages around in the writing desk in the corner of her living room to find her wedding photograph and then places it on the mantel in hopes that it will convince anyone who looks at it that she is "properly grieving" (28) the death of her husband.
