Why were the Hinkstons forced to leave the larger home they had rented?

The Hinkstons had fallen behind on rent when Doreen spent a month in Louisiana helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina. After this, two men shot at each other outside the Hinkston home and they were then evicted when the disrepair and maintenance issues were discovered during the investigation.
