For Claude and Paul, Jonah symbolizes hope and inspiration. After his arrival on their street, his basketball skills for some reason lead them to believe that he is a savior and the cause of any good event that happens. Jonah highlights the importance and power of confidence for Claude; his belief that Jonah will help him through leads him to become more hopeful and successful. Ultimately, however, Jonah loses his inspirational power when he moves away and stops playing basketball.
